Planets in Space

Planets in Space

This term we are learning about space. In particular we are learning about the Earth, Sun and Moon in relation to each other.

We used coloured chalks on black sugar paper to create a diagram of the Earth, Sun and Moon. Predictions were made and drawn depicting the size of the planet, star and satellite. Once we found out the real size in relation to each other, we were very shocked.

Most of us drew the Sun as the largest object, followed by the Earth and then the moon. However we discovered (after putting the Earth, Sun and Moon into a real life context that you can hold or see), that the sun is like a beach ball, the earth would be like a pea and the moon would be a tiny bead!
