St David's Day

Somerford Celebrates St David’s Day

The school was awash with Welsh flags on 1st March as we celebrated St David’s Day. The St David House Captains made lots of flags and handed them out before school to children arriving with their parents. There was lots of excited waving!

In assembly, Mrs Matthews treated us all to a traditional Welsh story about a brave dog called Gelert who now has a village named after him. In the story he guarded Prince Llewellyn’s baby from a vicious wolf and now a monument to Gelert stands in the village of Beddgelert in north Wales. Luckily we were all relieved to hear that the story had a happy ending. Phew!

Now we are looking forward to celebrating St Patrick’s Day in March and then St George’s Day in April.
