The Great Viking Bakeoff (November 2015)
On Friday, Year 5 baked their own Viking bread!
The Vikings would grind their grains using a grindstone to make their own flour. Luckily we didn’t have to do that! We used a mixture of plain and wheat flour, alongside oats and salt to make our own Viking bread.
First, we mixed the dry ingredients. Next we added the water.
Then we got messy! We had to knead the bread until it formed dough.
Once the dough was ready, we sprinkled oats on top and then baked in a hot oven for an hour. Surprisingly, it tasted delicious!
